If LOVE is the Answer, Could You Rephrase the Question?

I’ve been in love a lot. It started with my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Jones and pretty much occurred every year thereafter. Later in tenth grade and beyond, I am pretty sure I confused my love with lust most of the time. Most people do!  It is difficult to differentiate the two when you feel absolutely certain that this person is “the one.”  Wikipedia (absolute truth) states that “Lust is a very powerful, very intense feeling of physical attraction toward another person. Lust is mainly sexual in nature – the attraction is superficial based on instant chemistry rather than genuine caring.”

When you are truly in love, it is as if you have your best most trusted friend at your side coupled with the feeling of a strong physical attraction. You can’t reach the full potential of a marriage if you do not have both in my opinion.

I don’t want to brag, but I think I’m a love expert. Just FYI.

expert ( ) n. A person with a high degree of skill in or knowledge of a certain subject

At our company, we have more single employees than we have married. Some have shared with me their frustration with the dating scene and have confessed their loneliness and desire to fall in love.   How difficult is it to find a date which can turn into a fulfilling relationship which could easily lead to true love? I guess pretty difficult in these tough economic times (come on…everything else is blamed on the economy.) The Baby Boomers I know are hesitant to venture into online dating.  The Millennials believe that this is a great way to meet “Mr. Right.” Personally, I don’t think I would be good at meeting someone online.  Call me old-fashioned, but what happened to the neighborhood bar? Oh…I remember… the cheesy pick up lines.

But seriously, I advise all of my friends and co-workers NOT to meet men that way for many, many reasons!  “Go to church,” I chant! But come on…how can anyone resist those lines?

• Are you religious? [Why?] Because you’re the answer to my prayers.
• Is it hot in here or is it just you?
• If you were a drug, I would overdose!
• Hi, who’s your friend?
• Do you believe in love at first sight or do you want me to walk by again?
• What’s your sign?
• Want to get some air? You took my breath away!
• What do you like for breakfast?
• “Hey beautiful…that is your name right?”

Being that I’m throwing out the word “transparency” these days; I have to tell you that I met my husband at a retaurant/bar:  If you live in Tulsa…you know the place…The Full Moon Cafe.   It’s more of a restaurant, right?  I mean…I didn’t order food at the time and my girlfriend invited me to “happy hour,” but does that make a difference?  Whatever the case, I’m glad I got it out in the open.  I feel good.  Love, love, love.  Love is good.

I couldn’t agree more! I met my wife at a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, so it can happen anywhere and when you least expect it!! For me it has always been when I wasn’t looking for it…the pretty girl riding a bike, the bridesmaid at a wedding, and the friend of a friend at Rocky Horror! Patience for true love will find you!

I agree. Thanks for sharing. Especially like the girl riding the bike. Love in 1985 was complicated.

1985 was a heck of a lot easier and we had better movies, even though one high school critic did not like The Breakfast Club!!

LOL…you forgot one…”Is this the right place? Sure hope so, cause I’ve been looking for love in all the wrong places.”

      Posey-
I have never heard that one before, very funny!

Waylon Jennings, right? I loved the song. Did you use that line ever? We want details!

Lol…LOVE the blog 🙂 I met my best friend and boyfriend (waiting on the ring) online. Eharmony. It took me 1 week and him 1 1/2 years to find each other. Of course on our first date he said,” well at least it only took you a week to find the perfect date”….hahaha he’s such a funny guy 🙂 And to add to the cheesy pick up lines….”Are you from Tennessee? Cuz you’re the only Ten I See!”

Thanks for responding, Allison! I’d love to hear more about your meeting of your boyfriend! I’m sure you’ll get the ring soon. You are a super neat lady! Speaking of more pick up lines, I remembered one moer that a guy said to me…”You shouldn’t wear makeup. It’s messing with perfection!” This one didn’t do much for me because I LOVE makeup!

Lol! That is a good one. Even though most of us wouldn’t be caught dead on a date without makeup! Thanks for the compliment 🙂 I think you are pretty neat yourself!! When I get a chance I’ll share that story with you…hopefully it has a happy ending 😉

My 17 y/o son supplied these pick up lines:
    1. Did it hurt? Did what hurt? When you fell from heaven.
    2. Are you tired? No, why? Because you’ve been running through my mind all day.

    • Teresa Knox on August 15, 2010 at 7:19 pm

I love these! Your son is very interesting! He will have more girls than he knows what to do with! 🙂 Thank you for sharing with me.
